Union Minister Vijay Goel on Tuesday took his Dhol Andolan to the lanes, mohallas and shops of north Delhi’s Chandni Chowk to discuss the achievements of PM Narendra Modi’s government in the run-up to the Lok Sabha election.

Terming the area “Asia’s largest nerve centre of trade”, the former Delhi BJP chief campaigned in the lanes of Dariba and Kinari Bazaar, where he interacted with shopkeepers and traders.

“I urged the BJP workers to lead prabhat pheris and publicise the achievements of the Modi sarkar in every nook and corner… the Congress is showing false dreams to the common people by stating that if they are voted to power they will dispense ₹72,000 per year to poor families,” Mr. Goel said, adding that “various economists” had termed the scheme “not feasible”.

Leader of Opposition Vijay Goel of the BJP lashed out at the Arvind Kejriwal government for not paying attention to the issue of drug addiction in Delhi during its tenure, at ‘padyatra against drugs’ on Sunday. He said it would be a major issue during the upcoming polls as well as next Assembly elections.

Mr. Goel was speaking at the Jawahar camp JJ colony in Kirti Nagar where he took out a rally with party workers and residents of the area.

In a statement, he condemned intoxication in all forms and expressed concerns over increasing consumption of drugs in the Capital, for which he held the Delhi government responsible.

He said that Mr. Kejriwal was worried about the critical situation of drug abuse in Punjab, but had remained silent on the growing influence of drugs in the city in the last four years.

Drug addicts in slums

Claiming that between 50-60% of youth in Delhi’s slums are drug addicts, Mr. Goel said it was an administrative failure on the part of the Delhi government that addictive drugs were readily available in schools, colleges, and JJ bastis.

He also said that the de-addiction programmes that the Kejriwal government runs have failed to find a solution to this problem

“Drug will be a big electoral issue. Goel further said that Kejriwal would not make drug abuse an election agenda since he has not taken a single, remedial measure on this front till date; the de-addiction programmes. “Drug addiction is increasingly becoming a serious problem that continues

Goel said he would make drug abuse a major issue in the upcoming polls to save the health and future of thousands of kids and youths in Delhi.

Union Minister and former BJP Delhi President Vijay Goel would carry out a Padyatra tomorrow, Sunday, March 31 at 9.30 am from Jawahar Camp in Kirti Nagar against the failure of the Kejriwal government on checking the menace of intoxication by drugs, tobacco, liquor and gambling in the city of Delhi. Goel would talk to the young people and spread awareness on how drug abuse destroys their own lives. Drug abuse is not only sickness but also a crime.
 
Goel said the demand and consumption of drugs have drastically shot up in Delhi in the past three years; the situation now is such that even a kid as young as nine-year-old is consuming drugs. Goel said that the Arvind Kejriwal’s campaign in Punjab against drug problem was a mere drama because had he been sincere to the cause he would have rescued Delhi’s kids and college youth from falling in the vicious trap of substance abuse.
 
A survey conducted by the Kejriwal government on Delhi’s street children revealed that about 70,000 youths in Delhi were found consuming drugs such as heroin, cannabis, and sedatives, while 20,000 youths reported intake of tobacco. Many other surveys have repeatedly informed that as much as 50 percent of youths in Delhi slums are drug addicts.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress have both “accepted defeat” despite the Lok Sabha election being over a month away, Union Minister and former Delhi BJP chief Vijay Goel said here on Thursday.

Expressing confidence in the BJP’s prospects in the general election, Mr. Goel argued that his party would win “all the seven seats in Delhi” whether or not the alliance between AAP and the Congress materialised.

“Both — AAP and the Congress — have accepted defeat as neither of them can alone face the BJP in the Lok Sabha poll. Do these parties believe that they can fool the people of Delhi, and post-alliance the people would forget the corruption charges these parties had been making against each other till a few months ago?” Mr. Goel asked.

Arguing that Mr. Kejriwal seemed to be working on making a “Congress-mukt Delhi”, Mr. Goel said there was much more that the two parties needed to consider with the Assembly elections in Delhi scheduled soon. “The Aam Aadmi Party is working on a Congress-mukt Delhi and that the Congress would find itself hiding its face in the coming Delhi Assembly polls. Will the Congress accept Kejriwal as the Chief Ministerial candidate?” he asked.
